Fastest Aotcr Bridge Descent - 12-12-2010 , 12:51 PM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCq51cT7594

It saves about 8 seconds from scurty's method(in this video). I thought it was unique but I just saw Spotcheck use my technique too. There's still some difference though.

Edit - This one is easier and the absolute fastest:

I remembered I'd never posted it, when I watched Slynki's improvements video. That video made me smile.
When you say it saves 12-15 seconds, is that purely from the fall down, or is that overall (including walking to the tank, etc.)?

It may be a faster fall, but that's a lot of time you could be walking forward rather then in this method where you fall straight down. I don't know, somebody should research this (*cough* scurty *cough*)

When the music starts I'm just around the little corner. Scurty arrives there an estimated 8 seconds later in this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeLZZ...layer_embedded

Wow, I had never seen that, it was awesome. That was halo 1, right? I have to give this a shot.

Yeah. In addition to any potential time benefits, this method is exciting because the use of a shade turret might make it practical for NTSC boxes, which enjoy killing you for falling much more than PAL boxes do.

Hey, what's with the 343GS pelican being on ground level at the end of the video? Did you just melee it down the cliff or something?
I knew the pelican can be moved by hitting it, but I wasn't sure how far it was possible to take it.

It's too bad PAL is so slow in general, that's why I could never get the fastest time in this level. But I hope someone else uses it too break the current record.

The (unrelated) pelican thing: http://highimpacthalo.org/forum/showthread.php?t=56208

Yea, I can see if this works for me, but you'd probably have to be damn consistent with the grenade jump. I'll make sure to double check next time I load up Halo CE.

Sorry this is the fastest way.

Possible in PAL and NTSC. I would use a plasma, 1 second slower but easier. I still hope somebody puts this too use and beat all current records.

Watching that second fall, I can't imagine that being possible on NTSC. I'll have to try it myself some time.

I got the same hit as that like 10 times in a row, and I dont think that it is possible on NTSC

Yikes, I only just spotted your update, i.e. your new fastest descent. Hot stuff! I can't see that method being improved on. I fired up my PAL Xbox to give it a go and managed it on Heroic with both types of grenade, getting clear of the Banshee with three or four health bars left. I notice that you almost got killed by it at the last moment, going down to only one bar. You must've been sweating at that point. Was that on Heroic or Legendary?

After a while I set up a practice situation with a handy checkpoint at the Shade, and with all intercom chat and music silenced so it wouldn't drive me nuts getting repeated over and over. I used that to experiment with grenade placement, but here we get to the bad part. The method seems hellishly fickle, and I was unable to establish any particular grenade placing that would give me a decent sense of control, getting the required gentle touch on the high rocky ledge, and then bouncing off the lower ledge. The usual outcome when the Shade hit the high ledge was that I parted company with it. It has to hit just right for you to stay in.

Do you have any advice on grenade placement (with a plasma grenade in particular, being more controllable) which you think might make the difference? Or you would you agree that the method is something of a lottery even when you get the grenade in the right general area?

I'd be interested to hear if anyone can manage this method with NTSC. I see that slYnki and MrMonopoly are skeptical. You said it was possible, but did you have some reason for that?
