BAW Launch Archive - 02-22-2010 , 12:18 PM

The BAW launch archive

FINISHED :) Please report any broken links or bugs. Have fun watching this crazy launching method.

___________________________________ _
yo, whats a BAW?
___________________________________ _____

A BAW is a launching technique that stands for 'Break Any Wall'
You can launch through literally every single wall/ layer/ solid in the game.
It's basically a controlled grenade pile to launch through objects. With a normal launch you fly up in the air and (hopefully) land on some object. With a BAW you want to launch through something, like a grate in the wall or through a door.

A BAW is a grenade pile that (most of the time) is made out of 12-16 grenades. The grenades are not too close together, the blast will kill you too often then. You set the pile off with a live grenade and stand between the object/wall you want to go through and the nade-pile. The explosion of the pile will force you through the wall/door.

You make the scattered grenade pile about 1,5 to 2 meters away from the object you want to launch through. Always use plasma grenades, frags are too strong. There are different ways to make a BAW work well:

When the pile explodes the next things help to improve the chance of getting through the wall.

1) Jump and crouch - crouch when it explodes
2) Stand still and crouch - crouch when ir explodes
3) run and jump - jump when it explodes

There is also a box-BAW: You place a box between the pile and yourself. The box will push you through the wall.

We are currently experimenting with a vertical BAW: The pile can launch you through the floor, yet we have to survive it.

You won't get a BAW first try, it is usually a 1 out of 10 launch. With some luck even a 1 out of 3. With some bad luck a 1 out of 30 (15 minutes).

I recommend watching the videos for a nice indication of the BAW, pictures tell more then words. Have fun and feel free to ask.

Armory
lol! Impossible.

Cairo Station

Out of the station, normal gravity in space. [xlax007]

A set up to launch near the elevator out of the gameplay area and into space. There is normal gravity outside so you can bounce and jump around like normal.

___________________________

Cairo Station Lift. [HB sa lamee]

In the level 'Armory' you went up the elevator. That same elevator is still loaded on Cairo Station, with a closed door.

[Link]

___________________________

Cairo - Armory secret Hallway. [HB sa lamee]

Close to the elevator is a secret hallway, it is the same area you pass through on the armory. The box where the unnamed skull appears is gone. This area has never been seen before.

Covenant Dropship [xlax007]

For over 4 years nobody managed to get inside the covenant dropship. A bouncy barrier and a solid wall couldn't stop my BAW launch. Notice how crappy the pile was made and it still worked! (nades fall through the box very fast)

___________________________

Cairo Station Back to slanted elevator [Jay]

Jay launched back into the area where the big elevator descends.

[Link]

___________________________

Saving the Maltsa. [Causeofdeath15]

Causeofdeath15 BAW launched through the closed door in the hangar room with the pelican. Walking a bit further down the hallway and continuing the map like usual just saves an entire battle station.

[Link]

Outskirts

Outskirts Pipes [xlax007]

I got behind the pipes in the alleys using the BAW launch.

[Link]

Metropolis
none, yet.

The Arbiter

The hangar is meant for two. [xlax007]

I launched through the closed door in the hanger. You're supposed to get through that door after you cleared the hangar and when the phantom is gone. I hit a loadzone that made the hangar door close, with the phantom stuck in the hangar.

[Link]

___________________________

Behind blue glass [xlax007]

In the banshee battle I launched myself through both layers of the big blue window room. Of course I fell down >.>

[Link]

___________________________

Oracle preloaded room [HB salamee]

HB Sa'lamee launched into the oracle room from the arbiter.

[link]

Double windows [SRL]

SRL box-bawed through one of the double windows near the beginning.

[link]

Oracle

Fish tank. [xlax007]

Swimming with the fishies yaay. Seriously, I BAWed in the fish-floodtank located at the very beginning.

[Link]

___________________________

Storm room. [xlax007]

I BAW launched through the very first door of the map. The environment out there is pretty epic.

[Link]

___________________________

Secret elevator room. [xlax007]

When the elevator is down you see two doors: One to continue the map, and on the other side a closed one, with a whole map behind it...

[Link]

___________________________

Secret window room. [xlax007]

After you cut the cable and barely made it out of the banshee you come back in the arbiter room (where the heretic is on the other side) The door is on the other side, the room behind it is still loaded.

[Link]

___________________________

Outside glass. [xlax007]

Same as above ^but I launched through the very big window. There is normal gravity outside. Maybe you can launch back to the cable tower?

[Link]

Regret

Secret holo room [xlax007]

In the big underwater temple with the hologram of regret is a secret room. The doors can only be opened from inside.

[Link]

Sacred Icon

Vertical grate [xlax007]

At the very beginning of the level are plenty of grates. I BAWed through the big vertical grate.

[Link]

___________________________

Horizontal grate [xlax007]

Launch over the invisible wall located at the left and right at the start of the map. Behind the structure is a big big grate. One of my first 'target' BAW launch.

[Link]

___________________________

QZ Hallway [xlax007]

At the very end of the sacred Icon map you fight some flood. It's the same map as where you start on Quarantine Zone. The hallway is partly loaded. Without an loadingzone the 'end of a map' looks like this.

[Link]

Quarantine Zone

Sacred Icon shaft [xlax007]

I launched through the closed exit shaft of 'Sacred Icon.'

Link lost

___________________________

Big room lower small window [xlax007]

I launched through the window at the very left corner of the huge window-wall in the 'big room'.

[Link]

___________________________

Big room big window [xlax007]

I also BAWed through the very big window at the left (first try yay)

[Link]

___________________________

Sentinel factory secret room [xlax007]

One of the most hardcore and insane BAW launches I have ever done: A launch from a crazy angle through two layers of glass, which are sperated from each other with 30 cm extra space. Break Any Wall. or a B A I W: Break any impossible wall. This trick made me go and is still one of my all-time favorites.

[Link]

Gravemind

First window box BAW [Bud]

[Link] [in the beginning, around 1:00]

___________________________

Marine cell (First BAW ever) [xlax007]

[Link] [around 1:50]

Uprising

Best BAW ever [xlax007]

Sickest BAW ever: through a window, diagonally 50 meters up into an extremely small hooch. Together with the QZ sentinel factory the sickest BAWs ever

[Link]

High Charity

Sniper doors [HB sa lamee]

When you go up the first big gravity lift you find some jackals and snipers. Next to the jackal and sniper are two closed doors, with a small hallway behind it.

[Link]

___________________________

Window [xlax007]

I box-BAWed through the window in the 'water room'

[Link gone :(]

___________________________

Closed elevator door [HB salamee]

After you passed the 'Gravemind room' (the smog one with the tentacles), you go up an elevator to the inner sanctum. In fromt of the elevator is a closed door. It's the door the drones come from the earlier map. HB managed to launch through the wall back to the gravemind room/

[Link]

The Great Journey

Reverse BAWing [Grumpy]

woops, wrong way! Grumpy BAW launched all the way back through the structure to the beginning where the wraiths guard the door. He first launched up to the scarab platform, BAWed through the first door and walked through the whole level in reverse, BAWing through any closed door he encounter. Very nice BAW- sequence with halfway an unexplored area as extra bonus.

[Link]

___________________________

Prison room secret door [Grumpy]

Grumpy launched in a secret hallway behind a door near the hunter and elite prison. At the very end of the video, around 3:40

[Link] [around 3:40]

Control room early without a killbarrier [Grumpy]

Heh, this is a fun one . After a lot of talking, experimenting and trying we found a way to reach the bottom of the control room alive. How? We BAW launched into a pre-loaded control room, with no deathbarrier and a folded battle arena. The original BAW was performed by grumpy. Later we found out a vehicle could open the door aswell. A great trick with the BAW technique.

Cairo Station Cutscene Room - The T2T of Halo2.

Cairo Station Ontop of first elevator - Close to HB's armory hallway, just ontop of the elevator

Regret Baw out of the underwater elevator, try to launch up and see if there is a ceiling or something.

Regret Regret fight doors - where the elites spawn

Regret regret fight in the beginning, where the crates are. I remember some doors over there.

Regret underwater Pyramid - Baw out of the underwater cabine.

Regret underwater pyramid ledge - Baw out of the underwater cabine.

Sacred Icon golden staircase secret room - The secret room below the flood shelf. Vertical BAW

Saced icon flood-grates - vertical BAW

Sacred Icon green door - The closed door where the gondola came from.

Sacred Icon closed door at very end (below QZ doorway) - The little blocked off cave (is open in QZ)

Quarantine Zone big room middle windows - The windows in the middle of the wall in the 'big room'. Both the big and the small windows.

High Charity elevator tube - The area outside the gravity lift tube

High Charity crashed pelican - The crashed pelican in the beginning.

The Great Journey control room door - The door that wont open at the left side.

The Great Journet glass wall - In the control room Hallway.

The great Journey doors really early - launch over the mountain, skip the LZs and see if the maps are still loaded

This is awesome.

Two BAW's I want to try:

We've lobbed a Spectre over the mountain and bypassed the AI forming at the lower door entrance. Both doors, the lower one and the Scarab dock door should be looked at. The reason is because the checkpoints are also bypassed so maybe the inside areas might not be loaded the way it was in my vid.

The only bummer is there's no CP's

It's cool to have a reserved post
Don't worry, I'm going to delete this post at some point.

lol reserved post ftw.

I think the current setup is pretty clear?

If some-one wants to write an introduction, knows a BAW or has done one let me know so I can add it.

Maybe we can get FP if everyone reserves. I only have a couple of BAW's under my belt but you can post them if you want.

Can I ask what exactly is a BAW?

I know it's a launch with a grenade pile but that's it.

I'm currently getting a copy of Halo 2 for PC, so I'll run through it and see if anything catches my eye.

Is there a technique to them?

I'm trying with modding to get an easy set-up but I can't get them to work...

If you complete the list, I think I can tell you two or three ones more.

Btw, Grumpy, that last BAW in your video was cool. A long time ago I overloaded to see if there is something behind that door, and there was nothing. Most people did the same so nobody thought of there being an hallway. Now we know we cannot rely on the overload any more.

Edit to Owned Tom: If you use mods, use invincibility and just build a pile of 50 nades in front of some door, it will blast you through anything.

The real BAW is a bit trickier, but it comes very easy if you finally know how to do it. X explained it very well somewhere, I'm going to search for this post.

BGT: Does H2V have online coop? If not, you need to do the launching stuff in SP... I'm currently working on a BAW on Cairo in SP, I use Dan's nade collecting method. If you want to go into SP Launching, I can tell you a lot, just ask.

I like the idea. I've only done about 7 BAWS, most at QZ or SI. Get all of your Rampage videos up there xlax! And same goes for HB!

Well my eagle eyes can't do anything because I can't get the game to work, so I shall continue with my Halo 1 action.
