Halo 3 Submission Procedure (UPDATED 1/24/08) - 10-22-2007 , 09:03 PM

The time is finally here! For a successful Halo 3 run, please adhere to these guidelines.

Campaign scoring must be ON. This nifty little feature is useful, mostly because of the timer attached to the HUD, and the display at the end.

It's worth noting that restarting the level does NOT start a new film… it just keeps rolling. The best thing to do is to exit to the lobby, and turn scoring off, then on again to reset everything. That way you won't have any failed attempts at the beginning!

If you do not have xbox live, then record your run with the campaign scoring on, and include the postgame carnage report in the submission. Also realize you should really get xbox live, since saved films are supercool.

For a more detailed description, and the automated form, head on over to the submit page. Also note: we are now accepting 3 and 4 player runs! We don't have space on the times page, but they will be newsposted.

Go fast guys!

so i have to send it to someone w/ a cap card? like shakycam is against the rules now, or i you mean i cant record me as I'm playing it, it has to be playback? because "submitted using the saved film feature" sounds confusing to me as to what you actually mean.

Just a FYI, make sure your internal clock is accurate before speedrunning, or else your replay probably won't be stored in recent films.

Did I miss something? :X I thought the Community runs page was going to have 2-4 players, and the Times page was going to be Single Player and Two Player only.

i am in the process of writing the complete rules and submission guidelines - these will replace the current Rules and Submission pages at HSH

until then,

to avoid confusion, only one runner in co-op runs will be responsible for uploading the details text file and encoding the videos (usually, the one with the best CC) you can include the other co-op runners names in the text file

- if you have XBL but no CC, upload a text file to the HSH queue with all your details (name, email, forum name, run details, B.NET link and socket#) and name it like this - Tsavo_5:15_Vulcan.txt
- we can encode it for you, but it will take longer

- if you have XBL and a CC or DVD recorder, upload a text file to the HSH queue with all your details (name, email, forum name, run details, B.NET link and socket#) and name it like this - Tsavo_5:15_Vulcan.txt
- plus a video of the run in 428x240 (widescreen) 420k/bps h.264 encoded MPEG4 and name it like this Tsavo_5:15_Vulcan.mp4 - keep a copy on your computer because these specs may change and you may have to re-encode it
- you may also volunteer to encode other members' runs after the settings are finalized

- if you do not have XBL but do have a CC or DVD recorder, upload a text file to the HSH queue with all your details (name, email, forum name, run details) and name it like this - Tsavo_5:15_Vulcan.txt
- capture the run using a playback from the Saved Films Feature, encode and upload using the above settings

- if you do not have XBL and do not have a CC, upload a text file to the HSH queue with all your details (name, email, forum name, run details) and name it like this - Tsavo_5:15_Vulcan.txt
- shakeycam - capture the run using a playback from the Saved Films Feature - upload a one minute sample of the run named Tsavo_5:15_Vulcan_sample.mp4 so we can make suggestions to improve the video quality - once the sample is acceptable, upload the full run
- VCR - capture the run using a playback from the Saved Films Feature - mail it in

you may want to consider saving a bunch of runs and uploading/sharing them all at the same time with one of the Free 30 Day coupons found in some games

i am not sure about this but if you re-name the run it should move to the top of the Campaign Movies list and may stay on your drive longer

So what is a socket #? And where do we upload the text file to?

Wouldn't it be easier to just have an email address for this that all the admins have access to? Or maybe one that forwards to all of our addresses? I just checked and for some reason highspeedhalo@gmail.com is taken (did one of you guys nab it?). Or maybe I'll see if it's possible to set up an @highspeedhalo.net address.

yes, for now the text files should be uploaded to the queue as a temporary measure - the HSH halo site is able to receive email, but the feature is not yet used

we should take this to the mod forum to discuss - some of these announcements are a bit premature

True, but maybe everybody else should have a say in this. After all, what's easiest for everybody else is easiest for us.
