The HIH team - We will not be denied - 03-21-2008 , 05:45 PM

A Spectre got in the way, so I took it to the Index Chamber. Watch the ending for a surprise under Tartarus's arm.

Contributors: POTS & skeletor, KORHAL, dantheman87, Lone Starr, xlax007, NOKYARD, myself and countless other HIH'ers

Please turn the music up for this and enjoy, this trick was mind wrenching:

Tartarus and the Spectre 21 mb - Filefront streams just like YT, only better quality (no dl unless you want to).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6QZb0Om4qs Tartarus and the Spectre - YouTube

Low Res 4.28 mb - Funky music compression but vid's ok.

The Long Road To Getting A Vehicle To The Index Chamber In The Level Quarantine Zone

Here's a short text tutorial of the progress we made and a tut vid at the bottom:

Several of us HIHers have been attempting to launch a vehicle from the last map of Quarantine Zone, before the Gondola ride to the moving Gondola in the next map. We launch from the top of the map (behind the last big tower) in coop. We want to launch from that map to the moving Gondola of the next map. At launch P1 is hurled toward the invisible barrier (you can see a fake Library behind the barrier) and at almost the same instant P2 crosses the load-zone (below the launch) and then races up the ramp to activate the cutscene while pressing 'A' like crazy (stops cutscene play).

When we reappear on the Gondola we hope to have a live vehicle (Spectre in this case) sitting there waiting to be boarded. Even though the theory existed in very few heads it wasn't until Lone Starr showed that you could actually see a vehicle flying (looking through the windows) as he ran up the hallway toward the Gondola cutscene line. Then xlax007 kicked ass by launching a Spectre to the moving Gondola. Unfortunately it was dead but this was theee monumental tricks that paved the way for me to get a live Spectre to land on the Gondola so we could take it to the Index Chamber.

The vids below that led to the prize:

This was the big one, for me, that convinced me to stay with this trick.

Live Spectre on the Gondola Support 9.66 mb

Because of the low trajectory and because of a 'less damage' launch position I landed on the Library slanted roof, rolled down but survived. Unfortunately I missed the support beam below:

Spectre - Live at the Library 2.39 mb

This one is closer to getting on the Gondola than the above vid. The Spectre is alive and almost well as I took aim directly at the beam:

Almost on the Rocker-arm of the Gondola 3.59 mb

Here's a visual tutorial of what xlax and I have been doing:

Tut 57.67 mb

Time-line of the Workable Attempts Described Above

This is a short version (I don't have time to go through all posts on this) but I'll start by saying that after much discussion on this subject:

Lone Starr did a launch that showed a vehicle could be launched before the lz and then see it after passing the lz.

Xlax007 then set up his own launch and put a Spectre close to the moving Gondola itself (EPIC). This launch went past the lz of one map, through the cutscene and just missed the moving Gondola, in the next map.

Dantheman87 launched over and slammed a Spectre into the Library wall (then broke his disc, quit and suggested I do the same (I should have)).

X then launched a dead Spectre onto the Gondola itself and took it to the Index Chamber.

Grumpy followed behind everyone else and launched a live Spectre onto one of the giant support beams (right next to the moving Gondola) and jumped over and drove the Spectre around.

Grumpy finished off the HIH demolition of QZ

X is now launching a darned Scorpion at the Gondola and has it in his site.

X landed the tank on the Library roof and drove it around.

Grumpy turns thoughts back to same trick but different launch site and in SP.

The detailed timeline will be lengthy and I cannot handle it. Please correct me if I goofed on the timeline, I need a lot of correcting lately.

AWWW MAN!!! You didn't do any sword lunges in the index chamber. :(

Still great job!!! Proves that HIH can do anything if they put their minds to it. :p

Yeah, the physics are messed up in there. If the Gondola is moving laterally the Spectre is out of control while driving but it stays if you are in a side-seat or turret. When the Gondola goes up the Spectre is glued down and no amount of force moves it. I can't lock-on because I cannot use the scope in there and the Flood was too far away. It added up to no swordfly this time around but I did see how it could be done.

Then I decided to see if the Spectre would show up in the Chamber after the cutscene, and it did. Man, I'm glad it's over, at least for me.

O_O

Wow... I am in awe. Grumpy... you just completed the hardest trick in all of H2-dom. And here I thought I'd never see the day...

So um, I suppose I'll call you Grumpy God... or G Squared... or Serjeant (First Class) Grumpy... or something.

Serious koodos, I'm glad I got to see this sucker completed before I left. :D You deserve something in addittion to a write-up I'll make and send to Ducain (which he will hopefully consider), for this is a trick not even... Elvis or Lindsay Lohan could have pulled off! And that's saying something.

I'll begin working on a write-up with your kind permission GG. ;)

Those who helped grumpy on his campaign to Zuesdom will not be excluded in my congrating; kick-ASS job to you all. *Hurls a box full of puppies into air for joy* Yall make meh look bad. DX *Swipes foot around in a circle*

EDIT: Hows about a custom avatar for this gent, eh? Like that one with the Army hat over Grumpy's head (from Snow White) that I made for him a while back. He seriously deserves it. >_<

*Twitch* Need caffine.

I love Gilleh.

I've actually watched this whole trick develop for a while and I'm completely amazed at what has happened. We've gone from scattered theories and hopes at getting this done to actually getting this thing done. Lonestarr, Xlax, Dantheman, Korhal and the one who had the patience and skill to actually pull it off, Grumpy, worked together to get this mother of all Halo 2 tricks done. It's just amazing and no one could have done this alone. It took a team of elite Halo 2 campaign trickers to figure this one out. Where there is a will there is a way and you guys figured the way to complete this. Congratulations to all who took part in trying get to this done and eventually getting it done.

I'll say thanks from all of us for that, Duellies. POTS and skel first got me interested in this when I saw how terribly difficult the Flood route was. Dantheman87 and I had many PM's about an alternative route and so did he with POTS. This was 2 - 2 1/2 years ago? There were long, dormant periods, but every so often someone would add a tidbit of info. We were all secretly thinking about the possibility.

Then it came up, and stayed up, in KORHAL's thread and then Lone Starr hit a home run followed by xlax007 slinging broken Spectres at the Gondola. Then Daniel hit his home run and xlax stepped back to the plate and smacked a Grand Slam. Then I laid down a bunt and won the game! Team HIH kicked ass on this one.

Fun stuff

Termy - Thank you so very much. Your compliments mean so much to me. I went too far with this one (Daniel warned me). I got too caught up and could not let go so now I am, well, grumpy. That avatar you made is to die for.

amazing launch grumpy. It seems like the spectre landed straignt on it, it didnt flip over.I think the gondola became solid right when the spectre was above it and landed on it. Imagine that if the launch went 1 cm off at the main launch you would have missed it. It is truly insane to launch that spectre PERFECTly on the gondola. Sux that the physics are phail but have you tried it to keep the spectre at the main area? It seems like uptop of the gondola the physics are acting more weird then at the normal gameplay area.
(when you jump in the vertical climb you start float/sliding oevr the gondola)

The godfather of all tricks has been completed.
Thanks Grumpy you pulled it off, i dont have the patience for it, altough i think i lost some interest in it because of my 4 other spectres. Ill try to scorpionlaunch a wraith there, you motivated me to keep trying this amazing halo2 trick

Incredible work grumpy :)

and yeah HIH FTW :P

Grumpy, you....you caught me off guard. I had hope, but just didn't think it was going to happen this soon. Grumpy, I just don't know exactly what to say. Wait, I think I do. The only thing I could.

100% pro, god like, pimp, great, master-ish, and straight up EEpic.

Grumpy, theres allot of people that I'd like to see make that launch, but I'm glad its you. The funny thing is, they haven't seen the last of you. I apologize for my delay, trust me I am trying, but in my current position, I'm a prostrag.

Man, you pwned that challenge. This makes the third time I'll give this out and I haven't in over a year, but this deserves it.

-Nice-

EDIT:
I bet that shocked you when you looked up and seen it there.
