HIH Trick Video Archive For Ducain
In an effort to keep my Halo 1 tricks organized and available for download,
I've recently put in some hours (more than I should have probably) redoing
this archive page and porting it over to our new forum. Here you'll find a
listing of almost every Halo 1 trick I did, with video links, and HBO news
links where it applies.

You'll see references to 'Nomak' in some of these tricks, and that's my brother,
who first got me interested in Halo. We used to co-op every Thursday
evening, and a few tricking ideas came from those sessions.

I intended to add local HIH copies of each of these videos when I get time.
For now, every single one of them is hosted by mythica.org (to whom I
owe a small part of my soul), and if I can't trust those links, it's over. :)

If you get anything at all from watching these videos (other than a headache),
I hope it's a desire to get together with some friends and have some fun
playing an awesome game. That's what this was for me - relaxation, fun,
and massive dosages of caffeine.

Over 38 videos included here.

Cheers.

Single player jump to the top of a blue beam tower

Here is a short vid showing my first single player jump to the top
of a blue beam tower on halo level. This was the first truly
difficult 'to me' trick I tried, and not only had fun doing it, but wanted
to try even more things afterwards.

The very bottom of The Maw

In this vid, Nomak and I make it down to the very bottom of The Maw,
outside the ship. We go all the way down to the bottom of the map.
Many have explored the area directly below the exit from the ship,
but it will surprise you how much farther you can actually go.

"Jump"- things you can do with a warthog (Rated G)

Ah, what you can do with a hog and a pile of nades! This vid,
set to the tune of Van Halen's "Jump" explores the many
combinations of hog and nade.

can snatch the first banshee on AotCR (the one you have
to use a rocket launcher to knock down).

Jump to the SC maproom building hallway platform

This shows me using a warthog, and grenades from dead elites to
blast myself up to the small platform above the hallway at the
entrance to the SC maproom facility (where you fight the invisible
elites at the end of the level). Single player

SC structure climbing with hogs

The first truly unique trick I posted on the HBO forums. This vid
shows using two carefully positioned hogs, a rocket launcher
and an overshield to climb all the way to the top of the structure
at the entrance to the 'security switch' hallway on the level SC.

Jumping the SC 'security shaft' from bottom to top

Ever been down to the bottom of the 'security shaft' on SC? It's not
that difficult to get down the 'x-platform' (as far as you can go) in the
security shaft (the shaft directly below the security switch, and at the
end of the hallway after you fight the hunters), but in this trick, I manage
to setup a warthog launch down there, grab a checkpoint, and then
blast myself all the way back up. I'm pretty darn proud of this one,
because it took a good deal of thinking to get all the details right. This is
one of those tricks I would have probably been skeptical of if I hadn't done
it myself.

MC and hog on top of a blue beam tower, in single player

This is one of my favorite tricks to date. I'm pleased with this one,
mainly because nothing like this had been done before in single
player mode. I managed to get the MC, and a hog, up on top of one
of the blue beam towers in the level 'Halo' in single player. I just love it.

I used a shade turret and plasma grenades dropped by dead covies
to launch myself up on top of T&R in single player. At the time, no one
had ever been up there in single player.

I like it when you can see the entire island at once.

Mawtastic, by Ducain and Nomak

In this vid, Nomak and I show how to duplicate the trick done by Frogblast
(of HBO) where he managed to get up to the second floor of the Maw
hanger where the shade turret is. Fun, and a fitting tribute to probably
the greatest Halo trixster ever.

More fun with The Maw

This video shows launching up to the top of the POA in the maw.
I launched from the area where you watch Foehammer go down.
Also in this vid is a launch to a high platform, and a launch where I
get slammed through the POA wall while in the air.

MC and hog on top of lightbridge tower

Title pretty much explains it all. This trick took me forever ( around 40 hours ).
Man. Still, cool stuff. Also, this vid is in .mov format, compressed down from
a high-rez version by Louis Wu.

AOTCR superjump to the top of the banshee rock pillar

Pico (from HBO) challenged me to blast myself (from a hog) up to
the top of the 'banshee pillar' on AotCR in single player. Took awhile,
but here is the result.

Above the tunnel exit, and further

One day I decided to see if I could blast myself up on top
of the tunnel exit door in the level Halo. This was my first
real attempt at turret launching from a hog. After this, I did
so many things with this method of launching.

Three hogs and MC on top of the second Halo map, in single player

I had to blast three warthogs and MC up to the top of the second
Halo map, using only nades from the marines. The key to this trick
is the checkpoint I got with 14 live marines all assembled in the Halo tunnel.

up to the little shelves where the flood stand, and then all the
way to the top of the level. About 3 minutes, nearly 10 megs,

AOTCR antics, by Ducain and Nomak

This is the very first trick vid that Nomak and I did. I actually can't
believe I forgot to post it. It's really big (about 53 megs I think) so
the download will take a little time, but it's a goodie. As you can
imagine, it shows quite a bit of fun on the level AotCR.

After doing a little hog blasting with nades dropped by dead
covies, I found that you can take a really cool ride...through the walls.
Honestly, I have had more fun with this saved checkpoint than probably
any other checkpoint I have. I'm still not sure exactly how this all
works, but man it's fun.

Single player Maw banshee snatch

Way back in 'the day', Frogblast showed that you could snatch
one of the banshees that fly over Access Junction 4C by using
'object overload' (the process by which you overload the game
engine with extra items to such a point that it 'forgets' to add
some other items that belong in the game, like bullets, plasma
fire, and banshee pilots. Many had guessed that it was possible
for this to be done on single player, but apparently I was the
only one psycho enough to spend 5 hours overloading so it
could be finished. Check it out and see what you think.

Sarge and I do the cliffjump (marine flight training)

This is one of the coolest (and well, trickiest) tricks I ever pulled off.
You just have to watch it to understand how difficult it was - blasting
a warthog from one cliff to another (a LONG way), with MC, AND
Sarge alive, with no health loss. I love it. =)

Three hogs, MC and a live marine in the blue hallway, in single player

I believe this was the most difficult trick I ever attempted. Just
trying to figure the whole thing out took a good bit of time, and
then setting everything up, getting the hunter in place for the
checkpoint, two nade piles, moving one of the nade piles down
the hall with plasma grenades...whew. Of all the tricks I've done,
I'd say this one is my favorite.

Checkpoint by the SC invizo wall #2 in single player

Unless someone has spent a BUNCH of time on Silent Cartographer, some
explanation is in order to even understand this trick. Once you start walking
out into the water, you find that there's an invisible wall that is about 2 MCs
high. Then after MUCH walking, you come to a second invisible wall, and my
goal was to launch a warthog over that second wall. To accomplish this, I
had to get a bunch of marines past the invizo wall, get a hog and MC over
it, and get a hunter over it. After that, I had to drive each marine out to the
second invizo wall and kill him for his nades (It's about a 5 minute drive out
to the second wall - no, I'm not kidding.), and then eventually drag
the hunter all the way out there for a checkpoint. THEN I had to do a launch
in an atmosphere that looks like pea soup. All that to say this - as many of
us thought, that second invizo wall is the edge of the map, and you can go no
further, but it was still fun, and is probably my most prized checkpoint.

Blasting up from the bottom of the SC maproom shaft

This is another trick where I have to resist the urge to write too much, but
I can tell you that this was HARD to do. I had to assemble a warthog/
grenade launch down at the very bottom of the maproom shaft (the one
below the 'Shafted' cutscene), then use one of my faithful hunters for
a checkpoint, and THEN blast all the way back to the top platform. I gave
up on this trick once because after hours of setup, I accidentally hit 'revert
to saved' on my controller (CURSE YOU BUNGIE AI DESIGNERS!!!), but I
eventually went back and finished it.

MC and hog on top of The Maw in single player

Man, this took me months to finally finish. I got MC, and a hog, on top of the POA in The Maw,
in single player mode. I used the grenades from a dead special-ops elite to handle the launch.
No one had ever done this in single player, and I was pleased with my efforts.

Two Sgt. Johnsons to the bottom of Halo

This is the most recent Halo 1 trick I accomplished. The goal was to get
two Sgt. Johnson characters down to the bottom of the Halo map (the same
place Frogblast got to back in the day). The tough part (well, one of the
tough parts) is that you can only get two Sgt. Johnsons by grabbing one from
each part of the map. Watch the video to see what happened.
