Yes this technique is old, but I don't see how that's a problem. That's like telling someone hog-launching is pointless in H2 MP because it was used in Halo 1 Campaign. DefyLogic brings us an interesting video showcasing the whiplash technique, and they use it to get to many fun places throughout the multiplayer world.
