HIH: wearing Depends just for you
Ok, so check it out. Apparently some of same types of people that made the days leading up to the Halo 2 launch a hell of sorts for many of us have once again demonstrated that stupidity is spawned in the depths of the netherwebs. Leaked copies of Halo 3 have sprouted here and there on the web, and some sites have decided to take drastic action. HBO has closed it's forum (like it did in the Halo 2 days) until launch day, though news will still be in full swing.

We're not doing that, though we can certainly understand why any site would close up shop for awhile. I'm going to say that we will work to contain leaks here, and anyone caught posting any sort of leaked material will be permabanned without discussion. That involves images, video, and certainly storyline information. Zero tolerance. If you have to ask, it's NO.

We're working hard to get some major site improvements finished in the next week or so, but we'll also be monitoring the chatter. All that aside, I leave you with this: If you simply can't stand the thought of seeing one teeny tiny spoiler at all, PLEASE do yourself a favor and have the self control to leave the internet alone until release time. The internet is what it is, and it was never designed to contain the flow of information.

You've been warned. Thanks guys, and I look forward to enjoying some online co-op trickery with many of you in the coming weeks. Cheers.

Dibs on Duke.
Yeah, I just called dibs on you dude. We need two more people and there's a tricking extravaganza. =P

But yeah, spoilers suck. It shouldn't be to hard here, most of the members are smart, and the staff are on enough now to delete anything close to spoiled.
What if they're inside spoiler tags and are labeled properly?
/curiousity

edit: obviously, i'm not gonna post spoilers, i was just wondering.

There's a difference between sharing something that Bungie has released as news, and sharing some spoilage you gathered from a leaked copy of the game (directly or indirectly).

The first is fine. The second will be splattered by the Ogre.
So, no matter how it's presented, any unreleased stuff is permaban-worthy. Thanks for the quick reply.
Thank God you're not closing the forums, I don't know what I would do without HIH :)
Umm...Foo?

I called dibs on Duke like waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before you. I called him when we were discussing Online Co-op.

SO FIRST DIBS LOLOLOL

<3
This is definitely a good idea. I don't even watch anything involving leaked Halo 3 content because it basically spoils the game and I just don't feel like watching or reading the information.
No leakiez...
*cough*

Anywaaaay, awesome, I can't wait for the updates... Haven't been able to weasel them out of any mods/admins yet...
Darn ye GhostFaction!

/me shakes fist
May I suggest an IP ban?

Two days before Bioshock was released, the official 2K forums had many, many people with many dupe account registering and posting spoilers in the topic title. It was hell.

- spoiler - YOU WISH HE IS MINE!!!Well I'm glad hih isn't shutting down... :)

Only 13 days left too!!!
K, thanks for not closing, im sure your staff will do a good job. Noone foreces us to read anything, so it shouldnt be that hard avoiding spoiler if we dont look for them.

Edit- By the way the hot piece of man candy is coming with me

from Wikipedia: Patience is the ability to endure waiting, delay, or provocation without becoming annoyed or upset, or to persevere calmly when faced with difficulties.
This "no question permaban" rule is a tad bit too harsh, I think... Granted, it's an easy thing to avoid, posting leaks, sure, especially since Halo 3 is out within 2 weeks (omg, I just came), but the punishment isn't proportionate to the crime. What if someone was simply uninformed of our rules and mistakenly posted something? Perhaps someone considered some footage or pictures borderline and decided to post them anyways? I don't think HIH needs to be on high alert for the next few days. With most people around here, you tell 'em once and they get it, but for those that are uninformed, I think a simple thread lock and warning would suffice. I respect enforcing the rules, but c'mon now... we all love each other, right? Notable exception: the bouncing forum.

And for those who said they called dibs on Duke, sorry, I called dibs two years ago, but you still haven't responded to my PM, fiend! Oh well, much <3!

LOOLOL! Greatest post ever. I should reveil two new jumping techniques to you as a reward... @_@;
Even if it's a leak you can't put spoiler tags on it to make it OK. HOWEVER, if you want to talk about a story line AFTER the game comes out, feel free to use the spoiler tags.

I still think some people aren't understanding this.

Just to clarify: a person will be banned if he posts spoiler material from a leaked copy of the game BEFORE launch day. After launch day, all bets are off.
I had suggested on the IRC that new member registration could be closed.

It would prevent people who don't have an account here from registering, spoiling, and leaving.

Just an idea. Though, doesn't stop people already here.

I think that wouldn't be a very good idea, your stopping a lot of people who wouldn't post spoilers, but just like the community.

What about disabling pictures, and maybe staff could be the only one's a lot to post links.

^That idea sounded a lot better in my head, than I put it. :o
Well, that idea would stop current members from making new accounts to post spoilers.
Nice post Ducain. I also think that if a person posts a major spoiler, that not only will they be permabanned, but we should also find out where they live, tie there feet to the back of a truck, and drag them down the street. Harsh, I know but thats probably what I'd want to do if someone ruins the story for me.

Rocky: Disabiling pictures won't do any good because they'll just go to another part of the fourm and post it there. I think the monitors and admins will do a great job.
if someone is posting spoilers, give their ip to bungie, and they'll probably do something bad, like skin him alive.
Or throw him to Termeh.
Gilly's right. Termeh will devour his soul.
But closing registrations isn't right, we want new members.

I felt that line fit your quote perfectly.

So wait... if someone posts a spoiler and gets banned, but then after launch date they get unbanned?

I mean if they didn't know about it I could understand that, (even though its on the fp...) but still anyone posting a spoiler otherwise is purposefully trying to ruin everyones fun and obviously shouldn't be here. :(

Anyways duke, you can count on me for not posting any type of spoiler referring to halo 3 in hih . :D

....Although other spoilers may still be posted...
>_>
<_<
- spoiler - duke is hawt!he he. <3
No. If someone posts spoilers, there is no unbanning.
